Grey squirrels were first introduced to the UK in the 1870's from North America, this continued until the 1930's when it became illegal to release grey squirrels into the wild.

A squirrels front teeth never stop growing which means they must keep gnawing to keep their teeth at the correct length. They will put on extra weight to stay warm during the winter and are very acrobatic, intelligent and adaptable.

Newborn squirrels are only an inch long and have an average life expectancy of 6 years. Females of 2 years or older can bear one or two litters a year with between 1 and 9 babies in each litter.
