Ant Control Chorleywood

Worker and Queen ants are produced at certain times in the year. The male worker ants are the ones most likely to be seen and are about 2 - 5mm in length and a black/brown colour. The presumptive male and female ants are larger in size, about 3.5 - 4.7mm and 6.5 - 10mm respectively, these are predominantly black and emerge from the nest with wings during the summer.

Ant colonies centre upon a nest that arises after a mated queen establishes a small starter nest beneath the soil. The first brood of larvae then mature to form the first cohort of worker ants. A colony can grow rapidly with the queen continuing to lay eggs which are tended and fed by the worker ants.

Feeding on nectar, seeds and small insects, nests can survive for many years.

Ants become pests once they come into our homes searching for food. They are most commonly attracted to sweet, high sugar foods. When garden ants are foraging for food they can become a real nuisance, often walking over unpleasant and dirty surfaces while they are searching for food sources.

When ants have nested indoors, infestations may cause problems at any time of the year. Their nests are usually found in the insulation layer below a property.
